Introducing Suwan Organic Farmstay

Suwan, Manu and Ice

Hello, my name is Manu, I am from Belgium. Meet my adorable Thai wife Suwan and one of our daughters… We started our business in 2017. At that time, we were practically the only French speakers to offer woofing on an organic farm in Thailand.

Our main goal is to live in a self sufficient farm or as close as possible to it, share our experiences, and communicate our passion for everything related to organic agriculture, food forests and eco-construction.

The beginning of the story of our organic farm in Thailand

It is Suwan, my wife, who will change everything. While we had been in Australia for 6,7 years, and she was working on a conventional farm, in direct contact with pesticides, she was going to develop significant skin problems. While no medication was working, her arms were covered in purulent red patches. Suwan had no doubts, she was suffering the physical consequences of her boss’ massive use of pesticides…

It was when her face began to be attacked that the shock was radical. It was no longer possible to deny the effects of pesticides on her health. She then makes a courageous decision: to stop working on this farm, but not to abandon the land! She then decides to return to her native country, Thailand…

And this is where the adventure of creating our own resilient farm that bears her name begins…

The Suwan Organic Farmstay…

Our resilient, pesticide-free farm

Where are we located?

It is in the north of Thailand, between the cities of Udon Thani and Nong khai that we settled and built our farm on a human scale, manageable without ever using machinery and petrochemicals. We invested all the savings of a life in it without really knowing if we could live on it… We didn’t want any credit, and we financed our project ourselves.

We made the decision to leave the system, very happy to be able to engage in a project that would allow us to gain freedom and autonomy.

Located in an enchanting landscape, our organic farm is an oasis of biodiversity…

What makes it unique is the practice of the most environmentally friendly cultivation methods, such as permaculture and agroforestry. They allow abundant harvests, without the use of fossil fuels or harm to the planet.

The Suwan Organic Farmstay is an “open-air laboratory” in which effective solutions are tested, applicable in all gardens, whatever their size, to produce part of their own food.

In particular, visitors can discover soilless culture and our forest-garden, a “nurturing forest” which functions as a natural ecosystem, but in which all plants are edible.

Our farm inn is also a privileged place to learn about gardening and natural agriculture. Various training courses are offered.

But what is a passion if it cannot be shared? We had a few hectares of agricultural land, a good experience of permaculture, organic farming and organic crops. Through our meetings and our sharing on various social spaces, we became aware that many people had the same desires, the same passions, the same desires for this know-how, this way of life. They only lacked the basics, the experience, the immersion…

It is from this observation that “Suwan Organic Farmstay” was born.

Of course, people who stay at the “Suwan Organic Farmstay” are free to move around to discover the surroundings, the temples, the mountains which offer unique views of the surrounding landscapes, or the lakes. But above all, they can learn farm works in the rice fields, the edible forest secrets or the vegetable garden’s care. They are invited to take their time, not to give in to the frenzy of consumption and to truly take an interest in the way of life of the inhabitants, leaving a minimum of traces behind them. We firmly believe that offering a real alternative to mass tourism is possible…

All the meals tasted here are mainly cooked from the farm own production!

Thus, our visitors work to produce the food that the following will have the pleasure of eating… Some lucky ones who take advantage of our monthly rates will stay with us long enough to have the pleasure of eating the products they have sown…

With us, you will also learn many techniques to live your food and material independence. In other words, relearning to master the tools of our independence. A much-needed effort at a time when scientists are talking about a possible collapse of our civilization and the resulting modern comfort…

We also offer a workshop to make local bricks from the clay and sandy soil of their own land. An activity as relevant as it is fun, the step of mixing the ground with your feet to the rhythm of local music will give you unforgettable memories…
